Jax Compton

Comms & Creative Project Manager

Jax is a proud Wuthathi and Zenadth Kes woman, mother, wife and creative practitioner. She currently lives on Minjungbal country.

Jax found her desire to formulate a creative practice at the QL2 Centre for Youth Dance in Canberra. This led her to pursuing further study at NAISDA Dance College, Queensland University of Technology, completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance/Indigenous Studies) with Distinction, and a Master of Fine Arts – Cultural Leadership at NIDA.

Throughout her career Jax has experienced an array of amazing opportunities artistically as a performer, choreographer, and creative producer. While navigating her practice, Jax has worked professionally in the arts and culture, education, sports, events, and not-for-profit sectors and in 2015, Jax and husband Darren co-founded Muggera Cultural Enterprise, a cultural education company that shares elements of Minjungbal culture both nationally and internationally.

Jax has continued to build a practice that dismantles performative allyship, promotes fundamental change, and highlights the value and importance of First Peoples stories. Her practice explores movement, language, voice, storytelling and cultural identity to interrogate the world to embrace First Peoples, their women, their mothers, their storytellers, both now and into the future.

She is unequivocally dedicated to her family, culture, identity, and the creative practices, cultural expressions and stories of First Peoples.
