Mal Mann

Director, Programs & Engagement

Malcolm Mann has come from grassroots as a trainee Community Marine Ranger to an experienced Executive Manager for his own Traditional Owner group Darumbal. He has been instrumental with founding such things as the Darumbal Traditional Use of Marine Resources Agreement, Darumbal Land and Sea Ranger Program, and involved in the Southern Plan of Management with over two decades of expertise in Traditional Owner Reef Management matters. With a strong cultural background and a passion for empowering Traditional Owners with looking after country, Mal has contributed to numerous successful projects in various sectors over the years, including in his own home community Darumbal, Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation, Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, Great Barrier Reef Foundation and other numerous Traditional Owner reef and catchment governance groups.

Mal holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from CQUniversity and has continued to enhance his skills through ongoing professional development. His proficiency in the development and implementation of multiple programs and frameworks, combined with his ability to lead and collaborate effectively, has made him an asset to any team.

Throughout his career, Mal has demonstrated a commitment to excellence and a drive for continuous improvement. His innovative approach and strategic mindset have consistently delivered results that exceed expectations. In addition to his technical prowess, Mal is also known for his mentoring ability, helping youth to grow and succeed in their careers.

In his spare time, Mal enjoys boating and fishing, participating in reef & catchment traditional owner governance initiatives, and contributing to projects. His dedication to the field and his unwavering professionalism makes him a prominent figure in the Great Barrier Reef community.
