+ About Us:
The Great Barrier Reef Traditional Owner Taskforce (ReefTO) is a grassroots, Traditional Owner-led initiative that honours the decades of work by Elders to assert cultural authority and rights to sea country. We’re not just asking for a seat at the table – we’re building our own.
ReefTO is guided by the Reef 2050 Traditional Owner Implementation Plan, a living document created by mob, for mob. Our mission is to amplify Traditional Owner voices, elevate priorities, and drive genuine partnerships across the Reef.
ReefTO has three key objectives:
- Engage with Traditional Owners to establish the ReefTO Alliance.
- Deliver strategic policy and capacity building actions in the TO Implementation Plan.
- Monitor and report on the delivery of actions in the TO Implementation Plan.
We’re currently in build-mode, laying strong foundations, navigating ambiguity, and pushing for impact. We need passionate, skilled people who are up for the challenge!
ReefTO is hosted by Pollination Foundation until the ReefTO Alliance is set up.
+ The Opportunity:
We are looking for a Director, Capital Fundraising, to bring extensive fundraising expertise to lead, design, plan and deliver a fit-for-purpose capital campaign. You will develop and execute a fundraising strategy that will successfully deliver independent, sustainable and unrestricted income for the future Alliance’s core operations and key functions in perpetuity.
+ Roles and Responsibilities:
- Fundraising Campaign strategy and planning: Driving capital campaign feasibility studies and models to develop a data-informed fundraising strategy and campaign plan and managing associated budgets to deliver sustainable outcomes.
- Major Gifts and Partnerships: Identifying and stewarding high-value donors, developing compelling proposals, and negotiating on complex gifts to achieve meaningful outcomes and funding.
- Stakeholder and Cultural Governance: Working closely with Reef Traditional Owner leaders to ensure authentic narratives and donor approaches, while coaching senior leaders to champion the campaign.
- Communication and Campaign Collateral: Integrating fundraising activities into the overarching communications framework, maintaining a strong alignment with ReefTO’s brand and values and delivering high-quality materials and content that elevates campaign effectiveness.
- Systems, Compliance and Reporting: Ensuring robust CRM governance, championing data integrity and ethical practice; and providing regular strategic reporting.
+ Who We’re Looking For:
- Proven success leading endowment-focused capital campaigns, ideally in the environmental, Indigenous, or social impact sectors.
- Demonstrated experience conducting fundraising feasibility studies and translating findings into successful capital campaign execution.
- Deep major gift fundraising expertise (six- and seven-figure gifts), including gift table strategy, prospect pipeline building, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Strong and active networks across Australian and International philanthropy (HNWI, foundations, family offices, corporates and other philanthropic organisations) and the ability to rapidly open new doors aligned to ReefTO’s mission.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including development of compelling cases for support and donor proposals.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, with high cultural competence and humility; ability to work respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders, organisations and communities.
- Strong project and budget management skills; data-driven decision-making; proficiency in CRM/moves management.
