Shayne Blackman is a Gurang man from the Gladstone / Bundaberg region of Queensland.
Shayne has a long career commitment to Indigenous governance, cultural leadership and community development.
As a Key Strategist with the Port Curtis Coral Coast Trust (PCCC Trust) and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, Shayne led the establishment and operation of the Byellee, Gurang, Gooreng Gooreng, Taribelang Bunda Elders Council.
Shayne has led various initiatives that prioritise Indigenous knowledge, environmental conservation, and community empowerment. A member of the PCCC TUMRA Committee, Shayne is personally dedicated to the important work of preserving the reef and ensuring sustainable practices for future generations.
Early in his career, Shayne led the Congress Community Development and Education Unit, which developed the highly successful Shalom College in Bundaberg. He also the establishment of Yalga-binbi, a registered training organisation for community development and theological training, which also went on to develop a book publishing business that gave Indigenous writers the chance to publish their stories.
Shayne was previously Chairman/Administrator of the Uniting Church Aboriginal Ministry Queensland, a Committee member of the National Education Champions state representative body, and an elected member of the Regional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Council for Queensland.
Shayne has also been actively involved in seeking native title recognition over traditional country for his clan group.
